During the SIMET Board meeting and General Assembly held in Turin on 4 April 2019, a proposal was launched to establish working groups on several neglected tropical diseases: schistosomiasis, strongyloidiasis, Chagas disease and leishmaniasis.

The aim is to develop protocols and guidance documents to support the proper diagnosis and management of these conditions in a nonendemic setting such as ours.

At the first meeting, held in Florence on 28 November 2019, four working groups were established to begin drafting these documents. Although subsequent meetings were hindered by the SARSCoV2 pandemic, the groups continued their work and made progress in producing the guidance documents.

The working groups are composed of multidisciplinary teams of SIMET members who join voluntarily based on their interest in the topic, their willingness to contribute and their expertise.

New proposals for working groups will be published on this page, and it will be possible to apply to join each group.
