Regulations for the Granting of the Italian Society of Tropical Medicine and Global Health (SIMET ETS) Scientific Event or Publications Endorsement

1. Introduction

SIMET, the Italian Society of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, grants its formal endorsement, always of a scientific nature and subject to a decision of the SIMET Board, to initiatives organised in Italy or abroad by public bodies, organisations affiliated with the National Health Service, universities, NGOs, non-profit organisations, foundations, or scientific societies, provided they align with the aims and purposes of the Society as outlined in Article 2 of the Statute and fulfil the conditions specified in the Regulations below.

2. General Guidelines

2.1. 

SIMET grants formal endorsement to congresses, conferences, training courses, and national or international educational and research initiatives whose content and purpose align with the Society’s mission. Particular attention is given to activities related to populations living in tropical and subtropical regions, socioeconomically disadvantaged areas, and, more broadly, those most exposed to health risks associated with precarious living and working conditions and climate and environmental factors, in the following areas: 

A) Human diseases prevention, diagnosis and care
B) Human and animal health promotion, including food safety;
C)social, economic, and environmental determinants of health; 
D) technical and scientific cooperation in the socio-health sector, including activities within Italy’s International Cooperation framework; 
E) educational initiatives in the socio-health sector and other relevant fields listed above. 
F) health education and dissemination in Italy and abroad aimed at healthcare workers, labourers, travellers, and the general population; 
G) other areas, not included in the above list, directly or indirectly related to the health conditions, diseases, and health promotion of the populations mentioned above. 

2.2.

SIMET grants formal endorsement only to initiatives complying with Article 1.1 and provided that the events are non-profit and non-commercial in nature. 

3. Procedures for Requesting formal endorsement

3.1.The request must be submitted by the Scientific Lead of the event or by individual SIMET members in good standing with their annual membership dues; members of the event’s organising committee; or Presidents/Legal Representatives of scientific societies, hospital institutions, universities, or scientific foundations recognised by the State. 

3.2.In order to allow the SIMET Board adequate time to review the request, applications must be received at least 60 days before the planned date of the event. 

3.3. The application must be sent to the SIMET Secretariat (via email, fax, or postal mail) and accompanied by the following information: 

A) type of event;
B) organisation details;
C) thematic content; 
D) names and roles of the Faculty members; 
E) any sponsorships; 
F) a declaration from the applicant guaranteeing that the event is nonprofit and noncommercial in nature, and that its organisation is free from interference or influence from any sponsoring entities. 

 

3.4.The presence of a SIMET member among the Faculty is considered an asset, though not a mandatory requirement. 

3.5.Requests must be submitted prior to the finalisation of the programme, but must include a preliminary draft containing all the elements listed above. Incomplete applications will NOT be evaluated. No reference to SIMET endorsement may appear on preliminary programmes or flyers prior to receiving official approval. 

4. Valutazione e concessione del patrocinio

4.1.Formal Endorsement is granted by the President following consultation with the SIMET Board; in exceptional circumstances, the President may grant it directly, subject to later ratification by the Board. 

4.2.Formal Endorsement will be granted to events considered qualitatively aligned with the aims and purposes of the Society. In specific cases, endorsement may be given only to particular sections of the proposed event, based on their adherence to SIMET’s statutory objectives. 

4.3. Once the formal endorsement has been granted by the President, the SIMET Secretariat will promptly inform the applicant. 

4.4. SIMET formal endorsement does not imply organisational support and/or financial contribution to the event. 

4.5.The final programme of the sponsored event must include the phrase: 
“With the formal endorsement of SIMET – Italian Society of Tropical Medicine and Global Health”, 
along with the Society’s logo and website address (www.simetweb.eu). 
The event organisers must also send the Secretariat the cover of the programme in JPEG format and a PDF copy of the full programme prior to the event, for potential inclusion on the SIMET website. 

5. Final Provisions

5.1.Formal Endorsement is granted free of charge. 

5.2. Formal Endorsement cannot normally be extended to symposia sponsored by forprofit entities within an event. 

Note: 

The President and the SIMET Board reserve the right to deny or revoke, at their sole discretion, formal endorsement and/or the use of the Society’s logo and name for events that do not align with its institutional purposes and/or strategic directions outlined in the Statute, or when formal endorsement may result in a conflict with the Society’s principles. 
The SIMET logo is the exclusive property of the Society and may only be used by its Legal Representative and Statutory Bodies; any improper or unauthorised use is subject to action for the protection of SIMET’s image and interests.
